Primary Adult Care

I got my PAC card in the mail today!  I thought it would be my EBT card, but no.. I'm still waiting on that.  Tomorrow will be a day full of phone calls and figuring what my next step is so I can finally start seeing doctors and getting treatments!  I can actually start getting mental health care right away!  But I need to find a mental health specialist in the area that qualifies for PAC coverage or whatever..

Yay health care! I don't know anything about PAC... huh. Looking at the webpage, I get the impression it's meant for people who are wealthier than I am. Looks like you have some of the same MCO choices that HealthChoice enrollees have, but they don't provide quite the same range of services. Okay, I give up--bureaucrap makes my head hurt. In any event, congrats on getting your card & good luck dealing with whatever options you have to deal with!

PAC is for people who have little or no income, no assets, no immediate relatives who qualify for other benefits programs, et cetera. So no, you generally have to be the poorest of the poor to get it. But thanks! I have to go visit my MCO to get them to deal with PAC so I can qualify for medical benefits and see about arranging for mental health care.

Congrats on getting healthcare! You may want to try contacting NAMI and see if they can recommend a practice in your area that you can go to. I'm not sure if they have any info for things like that or not, but since they are a non-profit advocacy group for the mentally ill I'd bet if they don't have that info they could point you to someone who does. Most non-profits are really good about hunting down information requests. I know where I work that I've seen people in conservation science actually give their personal cell phones to callers so they could send photos of a spider so they could hunt someone down to find out what it was. They even go out of their way for kids calling in that are working on school projects.

That sounds crazy but cool. I will look into that, thank you.

Finally! I hope your nightmarish public service run around has finally come to an end and that you get healthy soon ^^

Well, I am still awaiting word from the Maryland Department of Social Services on my applications for cash assistance and medical assistance. I'm going to need some sort of cash assistance to continue paying rent, and their medical assistance program is apparently better than Primary Adult Care. If I do get medical assistance, my PAC package will be canceled automatically in favor of that.

All of this, of course, is just to keep me going until I can finally get approval for Disability Insurance and Supplemental Security Income from Social Security. Which, as I understand it, will likely be between one and one-and-a-half years after my next denial, which should I should receive in the next month. So we'll see.. it'll still be a long time of trying to get benefits, but at least I should be able to get some kind of help in the meantime.
